SACCCS a division of SANEDI is mandated by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) to build needed technical capacity in the field of Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) to prepare for the implementation of CCUS in South Africa. For CCUS to be fully considered as part of South Africa’s energy strategy, and climate change mitigation actions, the Centre is committed to engaging stakeholders and providing them with information about the basic principles around the CCUS technology as well as benefits and potential risks of its application. Following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s call for responsible social distancing to try and flatten the curve. As the outbreak of COVID-19 continues to spread across South Africa and remains at the top of the agenda for businesses nationally and internationally SANEDI has put measures in place for the safety of our employees and stakeholders. We have implemented a work from home protocol, allowing all our employees to work from home for business continuity and staying safe. Our office will remain open. This arrangement is effective from Thursday, 26 March.

The Ministry Of Mineral Resources And Energy Announces The Move Of The Carbon Capture Utilisation And Storage Programme From The South African National Energy Development Institute To The Council For Geoscience
The Budget Vote Speech of the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, 22 July 2020, announced a resolution to appoint the Council for Geoscience (CGS) as the implementing state agency for the Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) programme, previously implemented by the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI). The change was brought about to streamline the State-Owned Entities and to accelerate the implementation of the project under the CGS mandate to undertake geological work in South Africa.
